On 8 June we joined knitters from Otepoti Dunedin at the Otago Museum to knit slippers to keep children’s feet warm and dry at school in the winter. It was an enjoyable way to sit in the beautiful atrium and chat to other knitters, all working on their projects.
We have been making slippers for children at Carisbrook School who come to school with wet cold feet in the winter. They can wear some warm slippers inside while their shoes dry. Last year we donated 90 pairs of slippers to the children, and this year we gave even more. The children were very excited to see all the different colours and decorations on the slippers and the principal of the school said that not wearing wet shoes all day was beneficial to the children’s health.
