This month’s speaker was Justine Weatherall, General Manager of Youthline Otago. Youthline Otago has been working tirelessly to provide essential services to support young people within the Dunedin and Otago area since 1974. They offer a range of services including free helpline counselling, face to face counselling, community education programmes, training, and personal development.
The organisation is run by a team of volunteers, a Board of Directors and staff members who are dedicated to supporting young people overcome the challenges they face in their everyday lives. Youthline Otago also works to raise awareness and advocacy around issues affecting young people, such as mental health, relationships, youth violence and acceptance in everyday life. Overall, Youthline Otago plays an important role in the local community by providing a safe and supportive space for young people to seek help and advice.
Zonta was very pleased to be able to contribute to the “Squash the Stigma” event where Connor from ASB Bank played squash for six hours to raise funds for Youthline Otago while also breaking down misconceptions surrounding mental health.
