Our May meeting was our Annual General Meeting where we reflected on the year past, and formulated our goals for the next year. We welcomed new President Paula, Secretary Jeanette and Treasurer Jan. The three outgoing office bearers, Lynette, Dorothy and Kate were warmly thanked for their service and efforts during their term. They leave a club in very good spirits and strong for the year ahead.
The Committees presented their reports and outlined the successes, big and small, that they had achieved last year. We supported young women in their tertiary education, in business and in the sciences. School children also benefitted from our fundraising and handicrafts – piano lessons for a high school girl, warm slippers and thermal vests for primary children, and woollen blankets for foster children and babies. Older people in the community were not forgotten – we knitted “twiddle muffs” for dementia patients, and sewed breast cushions for cancer survivors.
The reflection on the past year made us grateful for the friendship we all enjoy in the company of our fellow members, and the realisation that we are making a difference in the community – locally, nationally and world-wide.
