April Meeting

Tonight we had a very full programme with some interesting guests, a new member inducted, a delicious meal and a lively club meeting.

First, two researchers of women’s reproductive and menstrual health from the University of Otago told us about their research project and invited members to meet them later to share our experiences. They wish to hear the stories of all women in their reproductive journey to improve the education and resources in this area. We thought it was a worthwhile project and several members will meet the researchers again.

Then after dinner we heard from Julie Roberts of Methodist Mission Southern. Julie showed her presentation explaining the work the Mission is involved in. We learnt about the support services the Mission offers to many sectors of the community. The Teen Mums’ house in Invercargill was particularly interesting, and our club hopes the same resource can be operational in Dunedin next year.

Other worthwhile projects include the Youth Transition House where young people can experience a flatting situation under the guidance of a supportive adult, helping with tenancy issues if a person is in danger of losing their home, Parenting Through Separation courses and specialist social support to the community.

Take a look at the Mission’s Facebook page to see the other projects they are working on.

We were also very pleased to welcome Candice as the newest member of our club. We’re very happy to have you join us, and we look forward to getting to know you more as we work together in Zonta activities.
