“Cooking up a Storm”

Many of our members wanted to do something to help the survivors of Cyclone Gabrielle and we heard about the nation-wide event organised by Al Brown and the Restaurant Association held on Monday 20 March. Several of us managed to secure tickets to the Glenfalloch Gardens restaurant where we enjoyed a glass of wine or Emerson’s beer, delicious lamb shanks with mashed potatoes, and chocolate brownie for dessert. There was lots of conversation, music and laughter and the silent auction added to the fundraising efforts. The staff at Glenfalloch did a wonderful job organising, catering, serving and clearing up, all volunteering their time. The event, one of three held in Dunedin, raised approximately $8,500.

153 restaurants, cafes and bars throughout the country participated, so the combined fundraising effort will be substantial.
