August Club Meeting

Tonight we welcomed Hahna Briggs who told us about one of her projects – the GASP! Dance Trust which introduces dance to people of all ages and abilities. It was fascinating to hear how the group had produced a series of films to showcase their work. Hahna hopes to show the films at the Fringe Festival, and perhaps even at international film festivals. It was particularly heart-warming to learn how the group’s facilitators encouraged everyone to participate and how the dancers became more self-confident in their everyday lives because of their involvement in the classes. We wish her well with her film and the dance group which is obviously so important to her and its members.

Club members agreed with the Advocacy Committee’s recommendation that we award the Jane M Klausman scholarship to Clementine Rose. Clementine is studying law and commerce at Otago University, as well as being involved in several community organisations. The scholarship from our Zonta club will help her to continue with her volunteering and community work while studying as she is financing herself through university. We look forward to hearing from Clementine later in the year when she updates us on her progress.
